Social Value
Wigston Roofing limited
Supporting
Positive impact of a business for
the wellbeing of a community
Social value is the positive impact that a business, organization, or public spending has on the economic, social, and environmental wellbeing of a community. It goes beyond just the direct product or service being purchased or provided to create additional benefits, such as creating jobs, supporting local economies, promoting equality, and minimising environmental damage.
Key aspects of social value
Improving community wellbeing, encouraging interconnectedness, supporting vulnerable groups, and promoting equality.
Boosting local economies, creating jobs, paying fair wages like the Real Living Wage, and supporting local and small businesses.
Encouraging sustainable processes, reducing waste, minimizing carbon emissions, and taking care of the natural environment.
How social value is created and measured
Donating time to local causes or sharing expertise.
Making buildings or equipment available to community groups.
Providing employment or training for key local residents.
Paying employees fairly and promoting diversity.
Public bodies are required to consider social value when awarding contracts, giving it a weighting in the decision-making process beyond just the financial cost.
